Chapter 2 Cover

There’s a good chance you’ll be seeing more Out of This World in the next couple years. It’s one of my favorite comics to draw, and researching it usually means listening to a lot of great funk music. Chapter 2 is “Electric Boogaloo” wherein the crew of Jackson’s ship has to fight off the giant space squid known as the Electric Boogaloo that sucks all the funk out of them.

You know, I cant remember the last time I really finished a project like this. It feels good. Children at Play is going on for forever (when I’m even working on it) and Modern Day Witchdoctor has like 2 years to finish just it’s first chapter. It’s nice to have a little project like this now and again to really make it feel like you’re completing something.

One page left! This was such a fun project to work on I might get around to doing chapter 2 eventually after all… I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you because by eventually I mean like, maybe 5 years from now or something, but still, this isn’t going out of my brain for a while.

This was a fun page to do. I think it has more panels than any of my other pages by far. I love writing villains far more than heros.

Well, seeing as this probably won’t continue I can let you all in on what the villains are all about. It’s plunging the three galaxies into emo-rock, the polar opposite of funk, and plunging the universe into an angsty melancholy from which it can never recover.

I know right. Best villain ever.

This is where I get a little dissapointed that this is the only chapter of OotW. The whole climax here really fits that “comic book” mold really well, letting the villains get away for a more thrilling battle later. I only have two more pages left of my next submission, so hopefully I’ll have that done soon. In between I have lots of little stuff to post here, I don’t know yet if I’ll do it on the main page, or jury-rig something with an extras page. I’m still trying to figure out how I’ll be able to post the next comic on this site while being able to keep them seperate…

So I was hoping to have my next comic submission done months ago but I’m still stalled on some pain in the neck backgrounds. It looks like after Out of this World ends it’s run Rejects will be stalled for a little while anyway.

Lots of little universe information if you wanna try to read the reflection from the villain’s computer screen here. It includes things like star coordinates for the planet this first chapter takes place.

These panels with all the nifty special effects are time consuming, but still alot of fun to do. Nothing like a week between comics to really build suspense though, eh?

Jackson’s microphone is a sentient robot itself with several different functions. It’s main function is simply to record events for policy enforcement, training, and historical records. However it can also perform some basic tasks on command including calling for back up, attacking, serving as a distraction, etc. All field agents have their own microphone.

Maurice’s “golly” game out pretty well here. I think the whole Gomer Pyle thing comes across pretty well. I got the whole story printed out at Kinkos this weekend. It looks pretty good on paper. I might try submitting it to a different publisher. Or do you guys think that would be a waste of time? I’ll need to whip up a cover page though, so their might be one more page of this comic than I’d originally promise.

What other sound effect could I use but “pew?”

Couple of page notes:

Jackson’s “mood eyes” are red, which is the same color to indicate both angry and surprised. I don’t think I listed all of the different colors before. Yellow usually means worried or on edge. Green meens sensitive or jealous, basically self-doubt. White is no strong emotion… and I think those are the only real colors I use in this chapter. But I’ve mapped them all. Blue is sad. Pink is in love, etc, etc.

Panel four originally just said “Wait it’s a trap!” but that really just begged the question as to how sherrif maurice knew it was a trap. The answer of course is that he’s a robot. duh.
